Salia was taken to the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) on Saturday, November 15 for treatment and the hospital announced on Sunday that the doctor was in “extremely critical condition.”
Dr. Martin Salia, an American resident who was infected with Ebola in Sierra Leone, has died, the hospital treating him has announced.
Salia was taken to the University of Nebraska Medical Center(UNMC) on Saturday, November 15 for treatment and the hospital announced on Sunday that the doctor was in “extremely critical condition.”
UNMC announced today, November 17, via Twitter that the doctor had passed on. It said:
“We are sorry to announce that the 3rd Ebola patient, Dr. Martin Salia, has passed away as a result of the advanced symptoms of the disease.”
“Dr. Salia was extremely critical when he arrived here, & unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we weren't able to save him.”
Salia, who was a native of Sierra Leone but married to an American citizen, is the second person to die of Ebola on US soil after Liberian Thomas Duncan lost his life to the disease at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital on October 8.
