Recent statistics released by the country’s minister of health and sanitation show that 111 new cases were registered on Sunday, November 9, the highest number recorded since August.
The United Nations has also warned that Ebola cases in Sierra Leone are being under-reported by up to 50%.
However, there is much more optimism as regards the situation in Liberia as cases of the disease are said to be reducing in number and treatment centers are starting to record empty beds. At the height of the outbreak, infected patients were being turned away because there was no more room in any of the hospitals.
The current Ebola outbreak has killed almost 5000 people with the bulk of the casualties being recorded in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea.
