Patient stabs nurses, others
There was commotion at Time Hospital, Owina, near Benin in Edo State when a man on admission allegedly attacked medical personnel and other patients.
The patient, identified as Ikponwosa Omorogbe, was admitted two weeks ago by the hospital. It was learnt that Omorogbe was admitted along with two others after they sustained bullet wounds during a clash at a political gathering in Egor Local Government Area in the state.
Omorogbe was said to have gone into the wards, broke bottles and threatened all those that came across him that he would kill them. He allegedly attacked and injured many people.
The Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Taiwo Amusan, said Omorogbe and two others were shot at a meeting to nominate those who would represent the area in the state House of Assembly. He said: “About two weeks ago, the police from Textile Mill Road brought in three persons with bullet wounds. One was shot in the chest and the others in the legs.
They said the i n c i d e n t happened while there was a political meeting which involved a fracas between two honourable members. One of the honourable members was detained by the court and it was his wife that was responsible for the upkeep of this patient that wreaked havoc on my hospital.
“It was the police from Textile Mill Road division that brought them in under emergency situation and we commenced treatment on them. “My nurse called me about 10pm on Wednesday that there was problem in the hospital. The patient’s name is Ikponwosa Omorogbe. Continue after the cut...

He was shot in the chest and was admitted. I was told that the honorable member who was detained by the Magistrates’ Court was released on bail yesterday to go and settle with his opponent.
“The boy, Omorogbe, suddenly went to the wards, broke bottles and threatened all those that came across him that he would kill them. He kept shouting that he was a killer and not an armed robber.
He broke into my office, turned everywhere upside down, took away N350,000 cash that was in my drawer, started spraying the N10 notes all around the hospital complex.
“He broke all the TV sets, chairs, and stabbed some patients. He was dangerously armed with bottle. In fact, I had some drinks in my office which I was reserving for my celebration having just passed the fellow o f Surgeon exams.
“We latter mobilised and were able to overpower him and disarmed him before the police from Evbotubu division came and took him away. You can see for yourself the level of destruction he has done. I am not a politician.”
