With presidential election results from all but one of Nigeria’s 36 states counted, and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Muhammadu Buhari, clearly in unassailable lead, President Goodluck Jonathan has telephoned Mr. Buhari to concede defeat.

The spokesperson of the APC, Lai Mohammed, told reporters in Abuja that President Jonathan has conceded defeat.

He said the president called Mr. Buhari to congratulate him on wining the presidential election held Saturday. Continue...

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has urged Nigerians to accept the outcome of Saturday’s presidential election in good faith, saying; “the election result is the will of God and Nigerians, and all lovers of peace, progress and development of Nigeria must accept it”.

Mr. Fayose, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, hailed the resilience and commitment of President Goodluck Jonathan and Mohammadu Buhari. Continue...

Goodluck Jonathan Markets Close Slightly Down

President Goodluck Jonathan is at the moment locked in a crucial meeting with some of his Ministers in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meeting, which details was reported by Silverbird Television, is in connection with the ongoing collation of the results of last weekend’s presidential election.

Jonathan is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the election. The results, which are being announced at the headquarters of the Independent National electoral Commission, largely tilts towards the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari, emerging as president-elect. Muhammadu Buhari was elected president of Nigeria, defeating the incumbent Goodluck Jonathan and setting the stage for the first transfer of power from the People’s Democratic Party since the end of military rule 16 years ago.

Buhari, a 72-year-old former military ruler who heads the All Progressives Congress, won 51.7 percent of votes cast in 35 of 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory in Africa’s biggest oil producer, the Independent National Electoral Commission said in the capital, Abuja. The presidential election results for 26 states has so far been announced and right now, APC is still leading with 10,462,670 votes while PDP has 9,953,432 votes. The difference is 509,238 votes.

The election announcement will continue in about 30mins. They are on recess. We still have Sokoto, Borno, Zamfara, Kebbi, Taraba, Benue, Adamawa, Bauchi, Delta and Edo.

Drama as PDP leaders disrupt collation of presidential election results

As Nigerians anxiously await the full results of the Presidential and National Assembly elections results, some officials of the Peoples Democratic Party, led by a former minister, Godsday Orubebe, on Tuesday, disrupted the results collation exercise in Abuja, accusing the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Attahiru Jega, of bias.

Mr. Orubebe, a former Niger Delta minister, seized the microphone, and for several minutes insisted Mr. Jega leave the results collation centre at the International Conference Centre. Continue...

Nigeria Presidential election results for 19 states released so far [see who is winning]

Nigeria Presidential election results for 19 states released so far, APC have a total of 8,520,434 votes while PDP have a total vote of 6,488,210 votes in the results of the 19 states. APC is leading PDP by 2,032,224 votes for now. We are still waiting for the results of 17 more states which according to Jega will be released by 10.am tomorrow. Senate President David Mark has grabbed the Senate ticket for the Benue South Senatorial District in the National Assembly. This will be David Mark’s 5th term in the house.

Meanwhile, Governor Aliyu Wammakko of Sokoto State(APC); his Plateau State counterpart, Jonah Jang(PDP); Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji(PDP); and Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State(APC), have won their Senatorial election to represent their respective zones in their states.

Gwoza: Military rescue abducted children, women, elderly

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ), Monday, announced the rescue of children, women and the elderly from Gwoza, Borno State, following continued cordon, search and mop up operations.
Nigerian troops recaptured Gwoza a few day ago, after flushing Boko Haram fighters out of the strategic town, which they had named as their “Caliphate” since August 2014, when they seized the town.
A statement signed by the Director of Defence Information (DDI), Major General Chris Olukolade, said the freed captives, many of whom showed signs of weakness, are being given medical attention. Continue...

The Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Port Harcourt, the state capital, hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission announced the result of the presidential and National Assembly elections in the state, Premium Times reports.

In a terse statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, George Feyi, the governor said the curfew will hold from 7p.m. to 6a.m.

“The curfew will continue till further notice,” a part of the statement said. Continue...

Goodluck Jonathan: 'Wait patiently for election results,’ President urges Nigerians

President Goodluck Jonathan has urged Nigerians to wait patiently for the official results of the Presidential and National Assembly elections which held on the country on Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, 29.

President Jonathan made the call due to the current tension in the country following the early release of results from some states.

“We waited patiently to vote in these elections, now I want to urge all Nigerians to also wait patiently for the Independent National Electoral Commission to collate and announce results,”Jonathan said via Facebook. Continue...

A 26-year-old pregnant woman has allegedly stabbed her husband to death during a quarrel over who would emerge winner between the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress, APC presidential candidates, while voting was on-going , weekend, at Ejigbo area of Lagos state.

General Buhari has been declared winner of the Presidential Election in Kogi State. The announcement was made by Kogi State INEC Collation Officer, Prof. Adikwu Michael at the State’s Secretariat in Lokoja this morning.

Photos: APC Protest In Uyo Demands Cancellation Of Election

APC Uyo chieftains and members of the party are currently on the streets of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State marching towards the INEC office in a peaceful protest insisting INEC is about to announce a rigged election result in the State. The protest is been led by the APC Governorship candidate in the State, Umana Okon Umana and the State APC Chairman, Dr. Amadu Attai. The Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Dakuku Peterside, says the party is in possession of a video evidence of rigging in Rivers State.

Mr Peterside was speaking via the telephone on Channels Television’s election monitoring programme in the early hours of Monday, March 30.

The top contenders in the forthcoming March 28 Presidential election, President Goodluck Jonathan of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Genenral Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have signed another peace accord.

The peace accord was signed in Abuja Thursday morning at a meeting facilitated by a former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, who is also the head of the National Peace Committee on 2015 Elections. Continue...
