Professor Jega said the decision of the commission was in the interest of Nigeria’s democracy.
He said out of the 68.8 million total number of registered voters, 66.58 per cent of the Permanent Voters Cards (PVCc) has been distributed.
“The decision to postpone the election is a difficult one, but we have no option in the circumstances we have found ourselves”
“If the security of personnel, voters, election observers and election materials cannot be guaranteed, the lives of innocent young men and women and the prospect of free, fair and credible elections will be greatly jeopardised,” he told reporters.
