The Adamawa State Police Command on Friday said it had uncovered 19 high-calibre bombs in a bush near Yola, the state capital.
The Commissioner of Police, Gabriel Adaji, announced this while addressing newsmen in Yola.
Adaji said the bombs were uncovered following information given to the command.
He said the bombs weighed between 25kg and 30kg and were capable of demolishing a 10-storey building completely, if detonated.
“Something that would have caused a hell of sorrows to the state was averted. One of the bombs is capable of bringing down a 10 storey building. They aimed to destroy Jimeta ” Adaji said. See another photo after the cut...

He said that had the terrorists succeeded in their attempt, the state would have been brought down as they wanted to blow up vital and strategic structures including the more than one kilometer River Benue Bridge linking the state capital with northern parts of the state.
“Yesterday, some prepared bombs ready for detonation were discovered and they are with us,” Adaji said.
He said the command got information that some hoodlums were planning to blow up some strategic structures in Yola.
He said: “All the bombs are locally made and contain high quantity of dynamite and Ammonium.
“And all the bombs are 90 per cent ready.
“The remaining 10 per cent is just to connect and detonate.”
The devices were on the verge of being transported to various parts of the state capital before they were discovered, he said.
Adaji urged the people of the state to be vigilant and report any suspicious character to the nearest security outfit.
