DOUBLE AGENT - Presidency officials question PDP chairman Adamu Muazu's loyalty to Goodluck

PEOPLE'S Democratic Party (PDP) chairman Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu has been placed under surveillance by some presidency officials amid concerns that he is not fully committed to the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan.   With Nigeria's presidential elections due to hold on March 28, there are suspicion in some quarters that Alhaji Muazu might be lukewarm to President Jonathan's re-election campaign. Apparently, some presidency officials are not comfortable with the activities of the former Bauchi State governor and some party members have informed President Jonathan of the alleged double-faced activities of Alhaji Mu’azu.

Among those said to have cast doubt on Alhaji Muazu's loyalty are the incumbent Bauchi State governor Isa Yuguda. According to Alhaji Muazu's critics, he did not take any action following the recent stoning of the president’s convoy during a recent tour of some states across northern Nigeria.  Continue...

Alhaji Muazu's detractors are particularly unhappy about the fact that he kept quiet over the stoning of the president’s vehicle in his home state. Although the stoning was blamed on the opposition party, the All Progressives Congress, Governor, Yuguda said that those who stoned the president were sponsored by the Federal Capital Territory minister Bala Mohammed.

One presidency source said: “You can see that Mu’azu has not been vociferous in his campaign for the president in the north. He has never organised any rally on his own and has never attended any other except those organised by the party which were attended by the president. “He has remained silent on the stoning of the president’s convoy in Taraba, Katsina and Taraba states. We have this unclear notion that he’s more interested in having a president from his region than President Jonathan returning, so we are watching him.”

According to the source, signs that Alhaji Mu’azu could have sinister motives emerged on the day the president inaugurated the party’s Presidential Campaign Council. He added that instead of speaking on the task ahead, Alhaji Mu’azu in the full glare of the television and invited guests, lambasted the president and the party.
