Culture, Not Sex: Nude, Virgin Beauties And The Umhlanga Reed Dance

It is easy to get carried away by the girls' beauty and unspoiled state, but the dance is not about sex...
To be a spectator at an Umhlanga Reed Dance event is an experience that no one is likely to forget in a hurry.
During the annual event, popular among the Swazi and Zulu peoples, thousand of extremely beautiful girls do away with their clothes.
Simply put, they walk about semi-nude.
The 8-day dance usually takes place at the Royal Palace between August and September and is attended by all young girls, including the king's daughters. See more photos after the cut...

It is easy to get carried away by the girls' beauty and unspoiled state, but the dance is not about sex — it originated from an old custom celebrating unity, life, virginity and royalty.
You see all kinds, all shapes, all colours of women at Umhlanga Reed dance.
And...
Just in case any pervert acts funny, the girls are armed usually with sticks (reeds) and machetes.
A good beating would be the price for misdemeanor.
