Imo: Angry youths, police clash over rape of women by Fulani herdsmen
Angry youths of Irete community in Owerri West council area of Imo State Friday clashed with police following protest against the activities of Fulani herdsmen in the community.
As early as 7.30am, young men and women of the community numbering over 500 marched through the village singing war songs and finally barricaded the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway insisting that Governor Rochas Okorocha must attend to their grievances before they leave the highway.
Eye witnesses told the New Telegraph that the community was protesting the incessant raping of mothers, ladies and teenagers by herdsmen who operate in the area.
A young lady, who operates a restaurant along the Irete stretch of the highway, told our correspondent that the situation was becoming a nightmare for the women folks in the area.
