PDP may adopt a consensus governorship candidate for Imo

PDP may adopt a consensus governorship candidate for Imo
Following hiccups and widespread dissatisfaction among governorship aspirants and stakeholders over the conduct of the recent delegates’ election in Imo State, there are indications that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership may resort to the option of adopting a consensus candidate for the governorship election in Imo State considering the convoluted nature of the crisis trailing the delegate election. Continue after the cut...

There are fears that if the party goes into the general election with the current level of disenchantment among stakeholders and aspirants following the outcome of the delegates’ election, angry party chieftains may work against the interest of any candidate that emerges through a flawed process.
Meanwhile, a coalition of political aspirants and stakeholders in Imo State PDP has rejected whatever may be the outcome of the three-man delegate election and called for its cancellation.
The group comprising governorship and National Assembly Aspirants and other Stakeholders submitted a four-page petition titled “Flagrant Abuse of Party Rules/Guidelines and Brazen Hijack of Party Congress in Imo State” to the PDP national leadership.
