Two blood brothers, Rabiu Rasaq, 42, and Sulaimon Rasaq, 38, have been remanded at the Kirikiri Prison by an Isolo Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos State, for allegedly beating up a pregnant woman and her husband during an altercation that ensued over electricity bill.
The pregnant woman, Blessing Eke and her husband, Samuel, reside at No. 9, Bakare Street, Mushin, in the house the sibling's late father left for them.
It was gathered that before Eke and his wife moved into the house, the suspects had not been paying their electricity bill over the years, claiming that since they are the landlords, they could not pay the bills. Continue...
The cause of the trouble was said to be Eke's refusal to comply with the brother's directives that he should contribute some money to offset the huge bills that had accumulated over the years. Eke reportedly insisted on the brother's also paying before he could pay.
The insistence of the man was said to have angered the'landlords' and they descended on the man. When his heavily pregnant wife tried to intervened, they also battered her as well and damaged some of their property in the process.
The injured couple reported the case at the Olosun division and the suspects were arrested and charged with two counts of assault and malicious damage under the Criminal Code.
The court presided over by Magistrate O. A. Adebayo, therefore ordered that they be remanded in the prison when they could not meet their bail conditions of N100,000 each, with two sureties in like sum.
