Reports have it that an employee of the United Nations has died of the Ebola Virus Disease in Germany
According to a BBC report, a UN employee infected with Ebola has died in Germany.
The deceased, said to be a Sudanese doctor, was a medical official with the U.N. Mission in Liberia and was transported to Germany on Thursday, October 9 after testing positive to the disease.
He was receiving treatment in an isolation unit at the St George Clinic in Leipzig, a local clinic with specialist facilities. More after the cut...
The hospital has issued a statement saying:
"The patient sick with Ebola fever died during the night in St George Clinic in Leipzig. Despite intensive medical measures and maximum efforts by the medical team, the 56-year-old UN employee succumbed to the serious infectious disease."
A spokesperson for the hospital also said:
"We can confirm that the U.N. worker being treated here died last night from the Ebola virus. He was of Sudanese nationality "
The deceased was said to have tested positive for Ebola on October 6 and officials say he died at the hospital overnight.
