Fayose Takes Oath Of Office, Promises Better Services

The new Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose who was yesterday sworn-in has pledged to serve the people more than he did during his first stint as governor.Fayose, who contested the June 12 governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), having polled of 203, 090 votes while the erstwhile Governor Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had 120, 443 votes.The governor who was returning to the office he left exactly eight years ago, took the oath of office and allegiance adminitered by the state chief judge, Justice Ayodeji Daramola alongside his deputy, Dr Olusola Eleka.
At the event held at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, six members of the State House of Assembly who defected from APC to PDP were received into the party by the national chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu.
Fayose Appoints 10 Cabinet Members
Barely five hours after his inauguration, as governor, Fayose has approved the appointment of 10 persons as members of his cabinet.Those appointed include the former permanent secretary in the state Ministry of Education, Dr Mrs Modupe Alade as secretary to the state government.Former deputy editor with the Tribune newspapers, Mr Idowu Adelusi was appointed chief press secretary to the governor. The former state attorney-general and chaiman, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ado-Ekiti Branch, Mr Owoseni Ajayi was appointed as special assistant to the governor on legal matters and Mr Kayode Oso as Special Assistant to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure.Others are Mr Sola Owoeye, Special Assistant to the Governor on Protocol, Mrs Sola Olowookere, Personal Assistant to the Governor, Abuja, Chief Toyin Ojo, Special Assistant to the Governor on Finance, Mr Sunday Anifowose, Personal Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties and Stomach Infrastructure, Mr. Sunday Omosilade, Personal Assistant to the Governor on Domestic Matters and Mr Lere Olayinka , Special Assistant to the Governor on Information and Social Media.According to a statement by Adelusi, the appointments take immediate effect.In his inaugural speech, Fayose at the well attended ceremony, said his intention was to replace poverty and want with plenty and prosperity.He said, “This we intend to achieve through the following five cardinal programmes of empowerment, development of agriculture, infrastructural development, education, science and technology, health, security, public service”.The governor, who drove into the venue of the inauguration in a 1965 model of a Mercedes Benz 200 car in company of his wife, Feyisetan, promised to work out strategic partnership with the federal government and its agencies and make contribution to human and natural resources to the country’s commonwealth to secure the state dues.On the financial positions of the state, Fayose claimed that his new administration is inheriting a debt profile of N57billion.He appealled to the people of the state to show understanding at this trying period and find a lasting solution to the immediate challenge.
