Federal lawmakers in Nigeria have killed the NYSC's controversial decision to introduce a N4000 fee for online access to call-up letters.
The House of Representatives (NASS) has directed the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) to stop is planned introduction a N4000 fee for online access of call-up letters.
Following a motion by by Hon. Hassan Saleh,the House instituted a probe into the plan.
Saleh said the idea of online access to call-up letters is not in itself a bad idea, but charging a N4000 fee for the service is wrong.
"As laudable as the idea of sending call-up letters though the internet may be, the decision requiring fresh graduates to cough out N4,000 to access letters appears insensitive and exploitative," Saleh said. Continue after the cut...
The NYSC had announced that, from 2015, prospective corps members will be able to access their call up letters online, after paying a compulsory N4,000 fee.
Public outcry trailed the announcement, indicating that it was an unpopular decision.
It will be recalled that the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Association of Polytechnics Students (NAPS) both kicked against the plan.
