Pupils at school in Gustine, Texas were rounded up, marched into a room and told to drop their trousers and check for poo.
Teachers kept finding faeces on the gym floor and they split boys and girls into separate groups.
Parents were furious and Gustine Independent School District Superintendent Ken Baugh agreedthe course of action was not right.
He stressed: ‘That’s not appropriate, and we do not condone that. So you would take disciplinaryaction.’
But he argued pants were only lowered ‘a little.’
