The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the 2015 governorship elections in Imo State inconclusive.
The declaration was made on Sunday, April 12, 2015, by the INEC Returning Officer for the state, Professor Oye Ibidapo-Obe.
Ibidapo-Obe said that the election, which held on Saturday, April 11, was inconclusive because the total number of votes in the areas where the election did not take place was higher than the margin between the two leading candidates. Continue...
The major contenders were incumbent Governor, Rochas Okorocha of the All Progressives Congress (APC) andEmeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The elections in Imo were also marred by protests due to alleged irregularities and manipulation of results in some wards.
In the results announced by Prof Ibidapo-Obe, Okorocha garnered 385,071 votes while Ihedioha won 306,142.
The Returning Officer stated further that supplementary elections would soon hold in the affected areas.
