In a last gasp effort to beat the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) submission deadeline and retain his job come 2015, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State in the late hours of Thursday picked the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in absentia – a few hours after crashing out of the APC presidential primaries, which held in Lagos.
At the event, which did not come as a surprise to political observers, the Governor’s son-in-law and Commissioner for Lands and Urban Planning, Chief Uche Nwosu, who was last Tuesday secretly adopted as the APC governorship candidate by the party, announced his withdrawal from the race. Speaking before the ratification of the Governor’s candidature, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee Mr. John Alamba, said that the party has the power to substitute any candidate that withdraws from the race.
Nwosu in his brief speech said that his withdrawal from the race was based on personal and family reasons, adding that the interest of the party supersedes his personal ambition.
