The nation was spared another major calamity involving a bomb attack on young students when the Bomb Disposal Unit of the Nigeria Police was able to successfully defuse an explosive device said to have been planted near Tin City Primary School in Jos, the Plateau State capital on Thursday morning.
The students have been sent home.
How lucky the nation was, was highlighted when the bomb disposal experts said that the fuse on the bomb had been lit, but went out before it could detonate.
According to reports, the explosive device contained about one kilogramme of explosives and was about 22 cm long and cylindrical in shape. Continue after the cut...

Early police investigations have suggested the device was supposed to blow up the cash machine outside the school.
This is coming as the team of Police Assistant Inspectors General in the seven zones of the police formation is in an interface dialogue with the traditional and community leaders in Jos to chart a way forward to end violent clashes.
According to online news portal, theeagleonline.com, when contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for Plateau State, Abu Emmanuel, kept saying he was yet to confirm the incident.
Last month a bomb exploded at Comprehensive Secondary School, Potiskum, Yobe State during assembly killing more than 40 students.
